Christmas can be a strange time. Definitely this year, it will be different in so many ways. 2020 has been a year that continues to have considerable impact on all the social things we may choose to do at Christmas. Apart from the social elements, I think it is a great time to be reflective.

Review your business

By and large the business world goes quiet over Christmas and new year, so taking some time out to be reflective won’t mean you’re missing out on any work.

What has the impact of the pandemic been on you and your business this year? What do you want to achieve next year?

Rainy day tasks

It’s also a good time of year to do tasks that you don’t generally get around to. Clearing out some of your files – both physical and computer. Getting the shredder to work overtime. Reorganising your office.

Reviewing your products. If yours is a consultancy type of business, why not review your material and notes? If you employ a team of people, it’s a great time to ask their views about how things could be improved next year. And do it in an informal setting. Over a coffee on Zoom etc. In a coffee shop. Whatever your local restrictions allow.

If analysis is your thing, why not have a look at where your business has come from this year and the spread of business by sector? Or if you’re creative, get some blank sheets of paper and start drawing your future vision of what you want your business or department to be or look like.

Whatever you decide to do, enjoy it. Do things which you wouldn’t normally. Make it feel different, breathe in the year now nearly past and look forward to the year ahead.

Very best wishes for a Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.
